August is a time when many of us take time off for a breather & to re-charge the batteries with a holiday. Final days of the London 2012 Olympics
For the last few days of the Olympics, the TV in the bar will be showing the events as they happen so we can join in the celebrations and soak up the atmosphere of our greatest games. Come on Team GB!

Real Ales
We’ll have our usual selection of real ales plus one or two guest ales making appearances throughout the month. We’ll also have a variety of ciders on the hand pulls.

FISH & CHIPS Tuesdays
Every Tuesday in August we are doing our fabulous Fish & Chips with our Hoodeners hand cut chips. Locally sourced and caught fish cooked in our own Beer Batter for only £5.99 each. Must be booked as we need to know numbers for catering purposes.

Super Sunday Roasts
On Sunday 19th & Sunday 26th August we’re having our infamous Sunday Roasts. So why not take the day off from slaving over a hot oven and let us take the strain!

This combined event between Hoodeners Horse, Hilde Marie-Smith (catering4Kent) and featuring Michael White from Rural Courses your foraging host for the morning.

In life we always wonder what is around us that somehow we never quite see, this is your chance to enjoy a quiet walk through the countryside with one of Kent’s foremost foragers whilst he shows you the potential of the foods in every field and hedgerow that we never see and think about!

We will meet at 9am at the Hoodeners Horse for a Coffee or Tea and a Bacon Roll before we start out.
10:00am Michael White will commence the walk around the local area and for the next 2-2:30hrs will talk about the foraging world around us.

12:30 On arrival back at the Hoodeners Horse you will be greeted with a refreshing glass of cordial, in addition we will be showcasing some Mexican themed appetisers to whet the appetite and for those that want something stronger drink wise, the bar will be open for you to purchase your choice of drinks.

Hilde Marie-Smith will have prepared a buffet lunch for those of you that have been on the walk as follows:
The menu for the Foraging Day Buffet Lunch:

Assorted Bread Basket and Butter
Chicken Meringu – With Sun blushed tomatoes and wild mushrooms
Poached Salmon steaks with wild herb dressing
Buttered New Potatoes
Savoury Rice
Green Salad with Dressing

After lunch we will settle down for a quiet, hopefully sun blessed afternoon on the patio to discuss all the things we learnt about foraging and to sample the Hoodeners Horse’s selection of wines and Beer’s.

Jubilee Bank Holiday Beer Fest

From the 1st to the 5th of June is going to be a busy one for us as we have a mini Beer fest for the Jubilee weekend. As a result we will be putting 7 Jubilee Ales on the bar with the first ones likely to appear from Wednesday 30th as space becomes available.
Also on the Bar will be 2 Old Diary ales for those that like local beer and of course we have 4 Ciders on the back bar.

For those that like local wine we have Chapel down as well as a few bottles from other local Vineyards

Great Chart Street Party Sunday 3rd June

As the road will be closed off for the street party from Ninn Lane down through the village, parking will be available on the football pitches just 200 yards away and the weather forecast on the day is looking good so the short walk will be enjoyable.

We have actively tried to support Great Chart in various ways raising money for the Street Party and it’s been a pleasure to be part of the community effort! We look forward to doing what we can for other events in the future.
For those of you that want to enjoy the atmosphere of the street party whilst enjoying a pub lunch and the Beer Festival there will be some dedicated benches outside the Hoodeners purely for your use.
In addition at 5pm we have Marc Lemezma the magician to entertain the children for around 1½ hours http://www.lemezma.com/
Please note it is our intention to close at 20:00 on the Sunday evening and therefore last orders will be at 19:50.

Fathers day weekend

15-17th of June we have a Cornish ale weekend with beer from St Austell, Skinners & Sharps Breweries. These are all beer’s that have to be tried to be believed & they won’t be available for long so make sure you get your share!

May Bank Holiday Beer Festival

The weekend of 4^th to 7^th of May is going to be a busy one for us as we have a mini Beer fest due to demand. As a result we will be putting 5 Strong Ales on the bar all over 5% ABV although we promise for those of you who like a session beer we will have one as well.

We also have a special offer for those of you who come in on the lunch time of the Beer Fest, buy a meal from our special list and your Real ale will be £3 a pint.

Wine & Cheese evening with Guy Boursot

On the 7^th in the evening for the Great Chart Street Party we will be having a wine and cheese event with a guest speaker Guy Boursot  www.boursot.co.uk/winewriter.html who has a Wine Shop in Ardres France and regularly speaks at wine events across Europe and beyond. He will be supplying 3 White wines & 3 Red wines all picked to go with locally bought Kent Cheeses. The cost of this event is £15 a head and includes 6 cheeses and 6 glasses of wine (125 ml).

We hope to end this evening with an Auction to raise funds for the Street Party.
