I popped into this pub on Monday evening with my other half, with the intention of having just a quick drink. I was served by a lovely, friendly barmaid, who gave excellent service throughout the evening.

At about 8.45pm we decided we wanted to order some food and asked if food was still available. Despite being informed that the kitchen closed at 8.30pm, our request was granted without any fuss and our order of nachos and cheesy chilli chips was delievered promptly.

Needless to say, the food was the usual high standard and the portions were huge. I really like the Hoodeners Horse and can't recommend this place enough. Can't wait to return...!

Quality pub. We were staying at a hotel nearby for my wifes birthday and read a few reviews on pubs in the local area. Wasn't what I expected but a great little food pub.

So many things we would have eaten but we went for a 'Tower' of spicy chicken, onion, peppers, tomatoes and cheese and a bowl of cheesy chilli chips. Absolute food heaven and thank goodness we don't live near the place or I'd be the size of a house in no time. Haven't eaten like that for years but had to finish it all. Portion sizes are good and very, very tasty. Went down very well with my wife.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Not a huge place and only a few tables to sit at outside but still a perfect place for a sunny lunch or winter warmer.

If you're passing through, stop in and make sure you're hungry!

This is without doubt the best pub in the Ashford area. A delightful village setting, consistently good ales (usually five on at any one time). Excellent food, which is plentiful. Friendly staff and generally fast service. I live on the outskirts of Ashford (on the Great Chart side), so I am pleased to refer to this pub as my 'local.

We found the place by accident towards the end of a 15-hour journey. The staff really looked after my wife and I and our two small kids. No problem with bringing the kids in. The Mexican food is pretty spicy - great if you like it (I do), if you don't, best go for the other stuff on the menu. The Spitfire was tasty. All in all a real find, and if I lived closer it would be my local. And I can't give it higher praise than that.

Simply the best Mexican food I have ever eaten.
Lighter, tastier this is how Mexican food should taste.
Highly Recommended

Fabulous food, friendly staff and a very relaxing atmosphere.

Open Table Review from 3/4/11

Really good cozy restaurant - small dining area with a vibrant bar. The food was excellent - we had fajitas (sizzling as promised), tortilla tower and burger. The desert of Strawberry Cheesecake in a glass was innovative and delicious! Our Canadian waitress was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend it to everyone I know!!

After looking at some good reviews, we decided to try out Hoodeners. We didn't regret it! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. Staff were friendly, food was brilliant. And they do give generous portion!
We will be coming back, for sure!

We were staying overnight in Ashford to catch a morning Eurostar. Getting everyone back in the car to make the very short trip out of town to this pub was challenging, but well worth it! We were given a nice table, and the food on offer was spot on - the usual pub options plus an interesting range of Mexican style dishes. The homemade burgers and the fajitas were great - perfect relaxing food for a tired family on the road! We were pleased we made the effort to research a little and make a short drive to this pub - it was so much better than the easy-option chain restaurants by our hotel!

When we arrived our table was reserved for 6.30 pm but after our long journey we decided to go to the restaurant a bit earlier as we were very hungry. However they did not start serving meals till 6 pm but the host was more than accommodating. She greeted us with a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. They did start cooking our food earlier than normal and when it came it was delicious. We had starters of potato skins and nachos which were nearly a meal in themselves. Main courses: 2 x cheeseburgers for the kids, mexican ommellete for me and rib eye steak with mexican sauce for the hubby. All of them came with the most gorgeous home made chips and salad. Even though we were so hungry we couldn't indulge in a sweet as the meals were ample to fill us up. The restaurant is small but has a lovely embience and nothing was too much trouble.

Great menu, great staff, lovely pub. We were made to feel very welcome when we visited with and without our young family.

Excellent for a lunchtime meal. As I live only a mile away I have eaten here quite often and have never had a bad meal. The mexican food is great as are the Jacket potatoes. The salads are lovely as well. Excellent pub grub in a proper Kentish inn.

Good real ale (or cider, if you prefer), excellent food, friendly and efficient staff - I just wish it was in my home town instead of 10 miles away!

I've eaten at the Hoodeners Horse a few times now and will do so many more. The service is what you want it to be - friendly, courteous and on the ball.
The food is just incredible - each meal I've had has been spot on, from the sizzling mexican, to the lasagne (quite possibly the best I've had), to the omelettes. And the chips - you have to go just for the chips!
One visit included my children - they were also very happy and want to revisit.
This would be somewhere good to stop off at on your way to or from France, even - not far off the motorway in a lovely Kent country village.
I'm not easily impressed - I just wish there was a Hoodeners Horse nearer to me in Maidstone! But then I'd probably eat out more often than perhaps I should...
Do visit - I think you'll be pleased you did.

Went here yesterday (Saturday 11th June) with three other people. Shared a portion of nacho's with my other half and couldn't believe how big it was, considering it was supposed to be the smaller version.
For my main, I had the homemade chilli con carne, which I really enjoyed. My other three fellow diners had the chicken fajitas, which they all liked.
We were all to full for dessert.
I thought that the price was very reasonable for what we had. I would certainly recommend a trip to this pub, even if it's just for a drink, as they have some good real ales. If you try the food, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
